Pastor Jorge: Making a Difference in Guatemala

Pastor Jorge: Making a Difference in Guatemala

As a child, Pastor Jorge Torres dreamed of making a difference in his community. Growing up in El Salvador with limited resources, he knew what it meant to go without. He would often wait for his brother to finish school so he could use the pair of shoes they shared. One day, while he was waiting, he dreamed about growing up and helping make sure others had everything they needed.

Years later, after coming to faith in Jesus, Jorge’s vision for his community grew even stronger. He and 12 families started a church—not just as a place to gather but as a way to love and serve the people around them. Their mission statement, “We are believers, but also humans,” reflected their deep commitment to faith and compassion.

But earning trust wasn’t easy. Many in the community were hesitant—doubting this church could really make a difference. But through perseverance and the support of Global Lift Collective, Jorge and his church family kept showing up. They listened, served, and proved that love in action speaks louder than words.

Today, their church is thriving and serves three communities. They’ve built a water system that provides clean water for nearly 150 families. They’re investing in the next generation, with kids actively involved in the church. And they’re even sending out their first missionary to bring hope beyond their communities.

For Pastor Jorge, success isn’t about numbers. It’s about people. It’s about showing up, serving others, and living out the love of Jesus in ways that truly change lives.
