Equipping Local Churches for Sustainable Impact

When it comes to solving the complex problem of poverty, local churches are at the heart of the solution. The Global Lift Collective believes that churches are God’s primary agents of transformation. In communities across Malawi and Central America, churches are already leading the charge to combat poverty and bring about lasting change.

The Role of Local Churches

In places like Malawi, where 80% of citizens identify as Christians, the church is more than a place of worship—it’s often the center of the community. Pastors hold tremendous influence over social, economic, and family matters. This unique position makes the local church the ideal foundation for poverty alleviation efforts.

Six Tools for Transformation

To equip churches with the resources they need to drive change, GLC provides a comprehensive set of tools, including:

  1. Leadership Training—Ensuring pastors and leaders are equipped with theological knowledge and practical tools for community engagement.

  2. Community Mobilization Training—Teaching communities to identify root causes of poverty and develop their own solutions using local resources.

  3. Savings Groups—Encouraging members to save together, providing small loans and building financial stability.

  4. Sustainable Agriculture—Teaching farming techniques that boost crop yields and ensure food security.

  5. WASH Services (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene)—Providing access to clean water and improving sanitation to promote health.

  6. Local Partnerships—Helping churches form long-term partnerships with agencies and governments to sustain change.

These tools allow churches to address their community’s specific needs while leveraging local assets and expertise.
